Fastest Selling Dog Toys for Christmas 2008A Golden Retriever Puppy and a Swimming Dog Top Christmas Gift List
Animatronic toy dogs are topping the list of must-have Christmas gifts for the festive season, from a swimming puppy to a Retreiver that follows commands.
Although a dog is usually for life, this holiday season there is one Golden Retriever that is just for Christmas. One of Hasbro's range of FurReal Friends, Biscuit, My Lovin Pup, a life-size Golden Retriever, is currently the fastest selling Christmas toy in the UK. This must-have Christmas gift ,which sells in the UK at around £130 ($180 in the U.S.), is putting pressure on parents' purses in this time of economic woe. Why is Biscuit the Puppy the UK's Fastest Selling Toy?The life-like animatronic Golden Retriever pup follows 6 voice commands (including "Give me a Paw and "Sit" and "Beg") and will respond to touch. He’ll also chomp on his bone (provided!), sniff, wag his tail and wiggle his ears. A video of Biscuit's antics can be seen on You Tube. Best of all he costs nothing to feed and doesn’t need to be taken for walks. He may also be the perfect solution for families who are allergic to dogs. The current fervor of finding the Obama-family a hypo-allergenic dog, has griped the interest of the nation. According to Sean Poulter’s Daily Mail article “Selling fast £129 dog that’s for Christmas, not for life" of December 4th, 2008, there is a mad scramble by retailers to get hold of the Biscuit, the Golden Retreiver from toy manufacturer Hasbro. The Mail quotes, Gary Grant, chairman of the Toy Retailers Association, as expressing amazement at the sheer number being sold, given today’s current economic climate. Hasbro's FurReal FriendsOther Hasbro FurReal Friends include Tumbles, a "tickle my tummy," roll over pup, Squawkers McCaw a life-sized squawking and dancing parrot. Hasbro's 3-feet tall animatronic Butterscotch Pony, which responds to touch, won 2 T.O.T.Y. awards for 2007; Most Innovative Toy of the Year and Best Girls' Toy of the Year. Rescue Pet Dog Toys For Christmas 2008Another popular pooch on Father Christmas’s list is the Rescue Pets Swimming Dog. The Swim to Me Puppy is priced around £24 in the UK or $30 in the USA. He comes with his own swimming goggles and a towel. When he is dropped in the water, water-covered sensors on his chest start his arms and legs moving, enabling him to swim! Bathtime has never been so much fun! This 9-inch tall cute little mutt also walks on land. Adopting this Swim to Me stray means he comes complete with an adoption certificate. Rescue Pet's dog toys are not new; they have a number of appealing toy animals. Priced at around $20 there’s a Rescue Pets Saint Bernard and an adorable fluffy Pomeranian. They bark, cry, whimper, move their heads and wag their tails. The Rescue Pet toys are for sale online at retailers such as Toys R Us, as well as major department stores like the UK’s John Lewis. The website Swim Swim Puppy has a list of UK suppliers. Top Selling Dog Toys of 2007Last christmas also saw a demand for lovable pooches.
