The FURminator is the newest deshedding product on the market, claiming to reduce shedding by 90%. But does it really work?
It's a fact: dogs shed. The problem can be magnified for owners of breeds known for being shedders (ex. Golden Retrievers). There are many products available that claim to eliminate your dog's shedding: from special shampoos, to all natural food and even tools especially designed to cut down on excessive shedding. So how does the FURminator compare with the other products on the market?
Benefits of Using the FURminator Deshedding Tool
Conventional brushing only removes the loose fur from the dog's coat. The FURminator works in a completely different way, and according to their website, their product eliminates shedding by 90%. But that's not the only benefit to using it on a pet.
Comes in a wide assortment of sizes. This makes the FURminator a great grooming tool for dogs of all sizes, as well as cats, horses, rabbits, ferrets and cattle.
Removes a larger quantity of fur. Because the tool is designed differently than a brush, it works differently as well. Instead of using traditional bristles, the FURminator has an edge of tines that "pushe through the topcoat to remove the dead undercoat" as well as any loose fur. It is ideal to use during heavy shedding months.
Increases circulation and cuts down on hair ingestion. Dogs who self-groom excessively to the point of inducing vomiting, can use this product to substantially limit the amount of fur that they ingest. This is also very useful for reducing hairballs in cats.
Review of the FURminator Deshedding Tool
Viewing the promotional videos on the product's website, as well as the customer testimonials is convincing, but does the FURminator work?
Not only does this product remove fur from your dog's topcoat, it also does a thorough job of removing the fur from his undercoat as well. It is well-designed with an easy-to-grip rubber handle and the quality of the tool is above average. This product is well-tolerated by dogs who are accustomed to being groomed with a traditional brush.
The only downside of this product was the cost. Depending on the size FURminator, prices range from $25 to $50. However, the fact that using this product will cut the amount of time spent grooming a dog in half makes the product well worth every penny. Also, if a pet owner is willing to spend the extra time grooming their large breed dog, there's no reason why they can't buy a smaller brush and save some money as well.

We bought this for our dog who has a thick undercoat and sheds an amazing
amount of hair. It is amazing! It really works, and is the best
"pet" investment we have made. We use it on our cats too. It is
well worth the money.

I just treated my lab to about 45 minutes of this tool and she loved it. I
know that my dog is pretty tolerant when she is being combed, but I really
don't think she was under any discomfort. While this comb is
considerably more expensive than other de-shedding tools, I would recommend
it because it is effective at eliminating excessive hair. I have always
said that shedding was my dogs only drawback. If you are as tired of all
the hair in the house as I am, this item is priceless. I bought the comb
that attaches to the vacuum and this is a nice feature. It can also be
used without the vacuum like the other FURminator models and it was only
$10 more. I look forward to being able to keep up with her grooming
even in the winter since I have the vacuum attachment.

We have a 3 year old siberian husky and after going through so many
different kinds of brushes we finally decided to try out the furminator. It
is such a wonderful brush. I worked so well!! Our dog rolled over on its
belly because he loved it so much!! This is a great investment and I highly
recommend it to all pet owners.

M. Jones I first tried other brushes for my Alaskan malamute due to
the cost of the furminator. None of them really helped when she was
blowing her undercoat. Now, I can't believe the time and money I wasted on
other things. The first time I used it I was amazed. Best part; it works so
well that you defiantly want to use it outside. So much fur comes off that
you will be amazed. Second best part; my dog loves it.

I have 2 pugs just bought the medium brush with "free"
waterless shampoo and conditioner I quote free because its always added
into the price somewhere. Anyway Its great I used to use a rake style on
their coat but they hated it, so I grabbed this and tried it just 20 mins
ago and it is incredible I paid 60.00 dollars for it but you will honestly
never need another brush again ever, it will cut down on vacuuming the
couch floors, cars and it really works so great and keeps them comfortable.
Worth the investment!
