Gift Ideas for Dog Lovers

Holiday Shopping for the Difficult Person on Your List

Nov 15, 2007 Joy Butler

If a watch or digital camera is out, try a custom doggy portrait or another of these thirteen perfect present ideas for dog owners.

If that difficult person on your gift list already has an Apple iPod Nano, doesn’t want diamond earrings, and has no need for skinny jeans, you may be able to relieve holiday shopping stress with these lucky 13 gift ideas. Considering that more than one-third of households owns one or more dogs, your problem person may just be a dog fancier.

  1. Passionate pet owners love to show off the love of their life on shirts, purses, throws, caps, mugs, clocks, key chains, and posters. Buy these breed specific or take a personal pet photo and have it custom printed.
  2. Take your friend’s pet photo to a local artist and have them turn it into a beautiful hand-drawn sketch or oil portrait.
  3. Dog jewelry, such as ear rings, necklaces, or charms, is available in almost any breed imaginable.
  4. Books are always a good choice. Browse the latest releases in training, care, breed profiles or stories. A subscription to a dog magazine is another good choice that will be opened not only on Christmas but year round.
  5. For the dog lover who doesn’t like to read, the latest dog movie may be a better choice.
  6. A dog calendar with an adorable photo for every month of the year makes a good gift. Many of these calendars also include care tips or dog trivia. Combined with a dog mouse pad, this adds a nice touch to the dog lover’s office.
  7. If your dog lover is into the increasingly popular hobby of scrapbooking, create some pages portraying their dog’s life. Include homecoming photos, puppy pictures, obedience class shots, any achievement photos, and don’t forget those everyday ‘just being cute’ pictures that vividly portray Max’s unique personality.
  8. Most dog lovers would appreciate a cuddly stuffed dog matching their dog’s breed.
  9. Any owner of a spoiled pooch would appreciate something special for their baby such as a luxurious, plush bed or a cute doggy tote.
  10. Dog parents enjoy browsing pet aisles for the latest doggy items. A gift certificate from a pet supply store or a grooming salon would be sure to please.
  11. If you’re the creative type, put together a Toys and Treats gift basket for your dog lover to enjoy with his pet. Mix and match toys and treats for the dog and a cookie or candy assortment with a book or movie for the human.
  12. Gift baskets can also include doggy clothes, fancy collars, a soft harness or barrettes for the pampered pooch.
  13. If your dog lover and his best friend have everything, a sponsorship in his name for a shelter dog, donation in his name to a rescue, or a care package sent in his name to a military canine is always a winner.
