Don't be surprised if you visit your friend's bathroom one day and wash your hands with the wag of a dog's tail.
Interior design may soon have a novelty item for dog lovers available in the plumbing department. America’s love of dogs has inspired every industry from jewelry and mugs to clothing and movies so why not a doggy faucet? Apparently the first of its kind, the Mia Princessa could be installed in both homes and businesses. According to the 2007-2008 National Pet Owners Survey, 44.8% of US households own a dog so the doggy faucet could end up quite popular. The New LookPamela Ruckelshausen, creator of the Mia Princessa design, has worked at a plumbing and electrical store for 18 years. Pamela tells Suite101 that it is not designed to look like any specific breed, but she is considering holding a drawing or contest where people can vote for their favorite breed. However, her inspiration came from her own four Dachshunds, Rucks, Mia, Will and Brownie. Designed with a smooth tail for the handle and floppy ears attached to the long body spout, the plumbing fixture could easily resemble a Dachshund. Inspiration Behind the Doggy FaucetRucks Ruckelshausen is the oldest of four dachshunds in the Mia Princessa and Brothers LLC company behind the new faucet design. At age 18, he’s been around awhile and helped to rear the Ruckelshausen children. Brownie Ruckelshausen, sadly, passed away in 2006 at the age of 11. Described as 'office food thief' and 'cuddlebug,' he provided tremendous emotional support during family loss. His contribution to the company is still recognized in every endeavor. Mia Ruckelshausen, age seven, was rescued from a breeder in California. Named Mia, Missing in Action, for being slyly liberated, she is considered the cover girl and princess of the company which bears her name. Will Ruckelshausen, the youngest member of the company at age 8 months, is a budding entrepreneur. He has been known to sneak away with a few $20 bills on more than one occasion. Pamela insists he 'talks' by moving his little tongue in and out when he barks and describes him as the one who is always stirring up commotion. When reprimanded, he gives his CHO (chief human officer) that ‘you talking to me?’ look. Searching for a ManufacturerPamela Ruckelshausen, acting as CHO, for the Dachshunds’ company, is actively looking for a manufacturer to produce the doggy faucet. Hoping to market it at a competitive price for use in kitchens, baths, or bars, she suggests it will make a great gift idea. When asked if she has any worries about the Dachshunds becoming rich and famous and replacing her with a canine company assistant, Pamela answers, “Absolutely not! We’ve been together for too long and are extremely loyal to each other. I consider my four Dachshunds to be family members. This whole company came into being because of them. I am currently their chief human officer and I know I always will be.” Images are copyrighted and may be reproduced with written permission only.
