» charladawson - Hi Joy, this is a great article about senior pets.

Hi Joy, this is a great article about senior pets. My heart always goes out to senior pets and their owners. It's comforting to know veterinarians can now help geriatric pets feel more comfortable and live longer.

I've had quite a few old dogs in my life and I'm always amazed when the vet comes up with something new to keep them going a little longer.

Jill and I are actually wanting our second dog to be a senior. We've had puppies and younger pets before. But we figure it's good to adopt an older dog and give love to a pet who really deserves some nice golden years. One who may not get a second chance at a good restful, healthy home otherwise, you know?

That's really great, Dan! Usually older dogs have a harder time getting adopted so if you open your home to a senior dog, that's wonderful! Actually they are usually much better behaved than a puppy or younger dog.

Plus our current dog is going to be 6 so a younger dog might annoy him. They can grow older together. Jill is really dog crazy so I know we will always have dogs and we both believe in finding shelter or rescue dogs.

I'm like Jill. I'll always have dogs. And it makes sense to rescue a shelter dog when there are so many who need you.
