I'm sure at 13, she does feel the heat much more than when she was younger. But knowing you, I believe she'll be well taken care of.

In response to Older dogs in the heat. posted by JButler:Our Chihuahua loves the heat! He will sit in any tiny patch of sun he can cram himself into. But this is just in a regular temperature situation. When we go hiking and such he gets hot really really fast (being so close to the ground). He goes downhill really fast, and he is not even close to old age yet. We have to keep a close eye on him.

Most Chihuahuas love napping in sunny spots. It sort of runs with the breed, I think. And they can't stand much cold.
I have an older toy fox terrier who loves to sit in the sun with her belly exposed. We always say she's "sunning her belly". But if it's really hot, as it gets in south Texas, she doesn't stay long before she heads back in to the a/c.

In response to Older dogs in the heat. posted by JButler:Yeah, Frodo is a desert dog, but he also has a dark coat so he overheats easily too. so he has to movie in and out of the sun...he's drawn to it like a moth but then has to move to help thermoregulate.
do you think dogs are bothered by humidity?

Even desert dogs have limits. And yeah, I believe humidity affects all animals. It makes the heat feel hotter, if that makes sense.
