» mncapt - i cant tell what kind of dog i have

In response to i cant tell what kind of dog i have posted by shiftastic:
First question...does she have "Lock Jaw"? Meaning if she's playing with a toy can you get it away from her without too much of a struggle? If you can get it away, I would say she doesn't have any pitbull in her. My first thought when looking at the pics was American Staffordshire/Shepherd cross. To me the head looks alot like AmStaff, and the coat and ears look shepherd...
Also the seperation thing, my little girl had it too, she still does, but not nearly as bad. Whats your pups history? Mine was found, with her litter mates, in a ditch, in the middle of November last year. I think that had a dramatic effect on her. When we brought her home, (Jan 07), all she wanted to do was cuddle, and be next to us. She wouldn't even go outside to the bathroom unless my wife and/or I were out there too. It took a good 6 months of walks, and playing, and putting her out in the yard on her own, for her to get over her fear that we were not going to leave her, in a ditch, and never come back.
Just my two cents if you're interested...
You have a good looking dog, good luck.

I certainly enjoyed your gallery and all the dogs in these pictures look very spoiled. My best guess would be a mix of maybe PBGV, Wirehaired Pointing Griffon, or Parson Russell terrier. I think it's a strong possibility that he has a hunting dog background.

Here are some links to more info on those breeds. Let me know what you think.

» commwife - Unsure of what breed our dog is....

Hi there!

We've had our dog for almost a year (he's a year-and-a-half now) and were originally told that he's a purebred yellow lab; however, we're convinced that he's not. I was wondering if you could help me determine what he is. He's extremely playful but nips a LOT and seems to not like me in the least (he much prefers my husband and son). The last time he was at the vet, he weighed 81 pounds, with a guesstimate of him ending up at close to 100 pounds. We know he has yellow lab in him and I'm wondering if he has some pitt in him as well, though his ears look to be a bit longer than a normal Pitador's ears.

In response to i cant tell what kind of dog i have posted by shiftastic:
Hi Joy
About 3 months ago I wrote and asked about my puppy and what breed she might be. I have taken some new pics of her for you. She is now 1 week shy of 5 months old, and weighs in at 33 lbs. She has grown in size but to me, isnt very tall for her age (compared to my shepherd mix). These pics were taken 1 week ago. My best guess now is lab/beagle or lab/jack, but I am not so sure as she is white all over except the brown spots on her ears. One ear just has a dime sized spot. I added some pics of her as a tiny puppy so you could see the changes.
thanks

Wow, 100 lbs will be a big dog. That's bigger than Labs get. I couldn't tell much about the first picture, the third one appears to me to be a purebred Lab, but the middle picture looks so different and seems to show another breed. I can't tell what, but I don't think it's pit.

I remember you and the puppy, also the dark colored dog on the sofa too. The puppy certainly has grown up and changed. I think Lab/Beagle/Pointer may be a good guess. Some Pointers are pretty much white all over with a little color on the head. I'm including a link to the AKC sporting group.

» CarrieEffinLee - Having trouble determining breed...

We adopted a puppy in March from the Humane Society. We were told he is a Labrador/Boxer mix, but the bigger he gets, the more I'm doubting that. He is only about 11 months old now, and he is HUGE (just about 65 pounds a few weeks ago). A few of my friends have suggested that he may have a little Great Dane in there somewhere, and I could definitely see that.
Any ideas? Thank you in advance!
Here are a few recent pictures. Also, to give you an idea of how big he is, my husband is 6'2"... that's Chantz sitting in his lap.

He is a big pup but at 11 months he won't grow just too much more. He will mostly fill out. Both Boxers and Labs can reach 75 to 80 lbs. He definitely shows Boxer. The pictures don't show a standing side view but from what I can tell, I really don't see Great Dane. I think Lab is a good guess, although he could have Dane as well as a few other breeds mixed in.
