» linkis3 - natural treatment for senior eyes

My dog,who is twelve yrs. old & kept indoors, appears to have had an injury to her eye. It is a bit swollen & has some discharge. Her head feels warmer than usual. Is there some type of natural remedy that I can use to help heal her eye?

Hi,
Well the problem with a situation like this is there could be a foreign object in her eye or a scratch on the eye itself. The best thing to do is to go to your vet for a diagnosis first. Once you know what the actual problem is, then it is easier to use a natural remedy.

I use a lot of aromatherapy in my own dog health care but it isn't something you would use directly on an eye. I hope you'll consider getting your dog's eye checked before using a natural remedy, especially if you don't know specifically what the problem is and your dog is an older dog so it is better to be safe than sorry. Let me know what your vet's diagnosis is and then maybe I can help once you have that determined.

A couple of great veterinarians you can contact for help:

Dr. John Symes, DVM http://www.dogtorj.net

Dr. Dwayne Hubbard, VND

Thank you for replying. I have since found out more info on her eye. One of the family members had tossed a biscuit to the dog & it had hit her in the head, probably her eye.(They know better that to do that, but I guess that had a lapse in judgment)Her eye has greatly improved, no swelling or discharge now. It appears to be quite normal, albeit, the cataracts that she has.
Side note: She is a wonderful & gentle mixed breed midsize dog! We have had her since her was a puppy.
