I agree with nwecker. Identifying mixed breed dogs is pretty much a guess for everyone and you can just call her a lab mix. I wrote an article earlier this year about identifying mixed breed dogs that you may be interested in.

I saw that same thing on Animal Planet! Different breeds do have different types of barks. And my mixed breeds have their individual types of barks. As I've gotten to know my dogs I've learned what each sound means. Just by listening, I can tell whether a cat, dog, car or person is approaching, and just how far away they may be. There's also different barks for people they know and people they don't know. Interesting subject.

My zoe is a lab/staffordshire terrier (pittbull) mix. It is a misconception that they are bad dogs around kids. Bad owners make bad dogs. they are very energetic dogs and you have to train them as such and make sure they are familiar with kids. I agree to state she is a lab mix.

Pitbulls really have gotten a bad rap because they like to jump and so most of their bite are in the face of childre, but they do not bite as often as some breed that people assume are more friendly. One organization did a test on over 100 breeds. I will find it and post the site.

Here is Zoe with my shepard mix Indi.

Joy, I really enjoyed your article and am glad you saw the AP show. She was incredible. I'm glad to be able to share that. Don't laugh at me but do people have chat rooms for mixed breed dog owners?

Kat, are you talking about the American Temperament Testing Society? There are some quite interesting results at the link below.

Here is a link to a description of the test.

I don't know why anyone would laugh. There's all kinds of chat rooms out there, I'm sure there are some for mixed breed dog owners. There are also lots of mixed breed dog message boards. Try the search engines.

That is the one. I think it shows clearly how breeds are prejudiced against because of visual perception. I think as long as an owner is aware of what traits a breed can possess as far as energy level and physical ability, no dog is 'bad' unless the owner made him/her bad. All breeds need temperment specific training and loving care.

Yes, isn't it interesting that even Afghans and Beagles scored lower than American Pitbull Terriers.
