» aspenbloom - sheltie/papillion or both?

Hi Kelly,
I'm in agreement that your dog is not a purebreed Sheltie and could very well possibly have Papillion blood. Does it really matter though because Cody is not only adorable but very obviously loved?

Hi Kelly,
You're welcome and I'm glad to see how your interest in the subject will only grow your knowledge for Cody's sake. He is a very blessed little guy to live with you. Now I have to ask if he can be featured on my blog, Bark 'N' Blog? If so just let me know.

Have a tail waggin' day!

I'm honored you would ask.
...sure he can be in your blog.

He is so cool. We have him in agility and he's awesome at it. He needs a job(sheltie trait again) so we took up agility and taught him to put socks in the laundry.

thanks for your input

Kelly

Thanks Kat for helping Kelly out here. Yes Kelly he will be at Bark 'N' Blog. Next week I'm going to feature Kat's adorable puppy Zoe and her ever patient roommate Indiana.

Thank you for allowing me to feature your special agility boy! I'll let you know when he is posted! Every Wednesday we have a new "friend"...although Shadrach isn't too fond of the cat "friends" I have him share on his blog :-)

» kelly2083 - first agility trial

In response to sheltie/papillion or both? posted by kelly2083:

we did our first agility trial and didn't do awesome ...actually we failed BUT we accomplished so many other things I'm thrilled and I've come to realize my pup is younger than I think ...he grew(?!?!?!)

I decided he is around 14 months this november.
He has a "jetting" problem. He's social and loves people and dogs and goes crazy over them so we would start a course and he would be like "excuse me did you see that hot sheltie over there? ...later gator". so we didn't complete a course(expected, just wanted to see where we stood) .....BUT my crazy dog who use to scream and throw fits when he couldnt' see other dogs or when I was out of sit, in a cage, etc. sat like an angel the whole time(4 hours) and behaved so well. He didn't charge after other dogs, he kept to me the whole time and when he did jet, I called him and he came back, which is huge.

He clearly was abused or hit by his previous owner and has come so far and was so confident and happy.

We are very proud ...and one day we will make it through the course(he's very good at agility, when the distractions are less)

thanks for reading

» kelly2083 - we are retiring from agility...

after trying this for a while ...I think it's coming to an end. Cody stresses alot in high energy dog situations and runs away. We thought we could work through this, because he's smart and fun and learns quick ...but my main thing is my dog lost interest in me ...prolly because I'm bossy and making him learn things constantly.

BUT Over Christmas break we didn't do agility. We ran 2 miles every day ...played w/ 5 dogs for 4 days peacefully and just goofed off. We did the normal training, but otherwise he was on vacation. WELL I NOTICED SOMETHING ...my doggie likes me again! He comes to me when I call and wants to play and I enjoy this. The only thing I can connect this with is no agility for 3 weeks ...which equals no stress and maybe he was connecting the stress to me?

ewh ...we will see. As far as I'm concerned ...my dog rocks!
Agility has helped us in understanding of eachother and I realize my lil buddy is a wiz! He learns things in two tries ...things that take other dogs months ...like targets in agility ...yeah we are pros after 2 times!!! ...but if he stresses, well he's not good at anything.
Also, he knows how to behave aroudn other dogs, is a doll to all that visit and loves us dearly.

What can I say ...I LOVE THE LITTLE KNUCKLEHEAD!

I just found this thread and saw Cody's picture. He looks like a sweet little guy and so alert. Do you think maybe he has some Border Collie in him?

I would say that if he stresses in agility, I wouldn't force him to do something he doesn't enjoy. He is so lucky to have such a perceptive "mom".
