» vermontchris - Mom is a Red Bone Coon Hound

Hey everyone...Wondering if anyone has any thoughts as to what mix my dog is...His name is Ripley, and this is a picture of him at 8 weeks old...I know the mother is a red bone coon hound...and there is a male "maremma sheepdog" that lives with the hound..I'm wondering if he could be the dad(but my dog has black on his face and the maremma is a purebreed (all white dog)...But I know the mother wanders all the time..and there are lot of dogs within a few miles of the house..My other guesses would be..boxer- because of wrinkly face...or lab because of the long face and the black...

Does he have webbed toes? That would point to lab. I can kinda see boxer. He is gorgeous.

Hi Vermontchris

Your puppy Ripley is very cute! I have a puppy too that is half Red Bone Coon Hound (Dad) and half Rottweiler (Mom). An odd combo I know, but Butch looks just like the Red Bone breed is supposed to look.
The wrinkled up head and floppy ears are Red Bone qualities, and I've even seen Red Bone Hounds with the black mask Ripley has. Butch had that too and a black tip on his tail when he was a baby, but by the time he was four months old he began turning red on top and strawberry blond underneath only.
From the pictures (they're very good, actually) I'd say a Boxer mix might be a good guess because of the way his snout looks, sort of broad and short, especially if one lives near the Mom dog. Boxers have a broad chest and smaller rear end, so if he starts to become shaped like that as he grows up, that might be your answer.

Ripley seems to show hound, maybe even Ridgeback, and his muzzle suggests Boxer. His looks will change though as he matures.
