You must be joking, or are you serious??Halloween or New Years eve are certainly not happy times for dogs. You have not lived thru the blitz in London like I did, so I know what it must feel like for these poor animals who have a sense of hearing far superior than what we have. It is a terible time for these poor animals, so anybody who has a dog must be thoughtless and callous to think that its a happy time of the year. It is a happy time of the year and can be without all this exhibitionistic feeling that people have. Far better to spend the money on something that could benefit mankind.

You are right. Most dogs do not want to be included in our human celebrations and, as Kim states in her article, steps should be taken to make them safe.

There are exceptions though and you should consider your pets reactions to the activities you include him/her in for signs of stress, i.e. tail between the legs, soft whining, reluctance to come to you, etc.

Thanks for your reply regarding fireworks etc. Here in Sweden the time for celebrating is Dec 31, although it starts well before Xmas, despite the fact that everybody living in builtup areas must have a licence from the police for setting off fireworks, although nobody ever asks for a licence, the police and the local authorities just turn a blind eye to this. The poor animals have to put up with this, as it is not a "priority" say the police. One has to take matters into our own hands.
