» Jillio - Need help guessing breed of mixed dog.

Only because I am curious no other reasons. =) To me he looks like he definitely has Jack Russell in him and some others said Whippet/Jack Russell but I'm not sure. He is a rescued stray and he is still getting used to being off the streets so I don't think he has shown us his true personality just yet.

The first picture shows Jack Russell, or rather Parson Russell, very strongly. The second picture seems to show a whole different side of him. I'm not sure about the Whippet suggestion...my guess is just a mixture of various terriers. I'm sure his personality will blossom as he gains confidence.

» heartsong25 - Breed of my dogs?

I got these 2 from the pound at 2 mths old, they're about 7 mths now. They told us the mother was an Aussie cattle dog, and I believe there is def some of that in them as my girl has thr typical red spots and freckles on a white coat. Her shape though small like a cattle, looks a little border collie like in the face as she doesnt have the pointy ear and triangular face... my boy has totally different colouring, he's got more shepherd like colours and a slightly different shaped face that my girl. Could he have alsation or german shepherd in him? Any comments welcome! For pictures, have a look at my website photo album.
Thanks!

I enjoyed looking at your photos and even read some of your blog. It's a lot easier to see features in person (in dog?) than on photos but I really don't see border collie. The one photo makes her look like some type of hound (maybe Pointer?) and the photo looking in the door makes her look sort of like a bulldog cross. And the other dog does definitely look like he could have German Shepherd in him. They could possibly have different fathers. Are you still working in the vet office? What do they think?

Thanks for your response Joy. I am still working at a vet and my boss tells me he sees cattle dog in them but he didn't tell me of anything else. The reason I said I thought that she had border collie was because I have a dog at home in Oz who looks a lot like Joey in body shape and hair length but is the black and white pattern typical of border collies so I figured she was the same but with the red cattle dog colours instead... I don't know about the bulldog part but the way her lips kind of droop might indicate a hound as you said...well I'm just glad she is very good tempered and loving, well they both are. They don't seem to be getting any bigger either which is nice we can still carry them! Do you think at 7 months they are about as big as they will get?

Here again, it's hard to say about their size. Bigger breeds seem to grow for a longer time than smaller breeds. If these dogs are medium sized breeds, they will probably grow a little bit more. I'm sure they will fill out some.

Trying to figure out the breeds is fun and certainly a challenge but their being good tempered and loving is what's most important. happy
