In response to sled dogs posted by JButler:

I would take out different dogs for runs, to pull the chariots, since it was only fall and there was no snow. I am not a snow person in any case. Sometimes i'd hook up small teams. Different dogs got along well in certain teams, just like people do.

They LOVED pulling! They would all set up a huge keening cachophony whenever they saw me with harnesses.

Some smaller, smarter dogs were the best lead dogs. The more massive, steady hands were wheel dogs. There were lots of categories of pullers. They were just wonderful furry beings.
