» clkelly - correct amount of food

I have a toy manchester terrier. I feed her home made dog food because store bought food makes her sick (exposively sick, if you get my drift!). I feed her 60% beef, 30% rice, and 30% veggies plus a daily doggie vitamin. I was hoping that someone could tell me exactly how much food that I should be feeding her. She is full grown and weights a tad less than 7 pounds. If someone could help me with this, I would really appreciate it!!

First off, it would be a good idea to ask your veterinarian why commercial dog food affects her adversely. He would need to advise you on her diet if she has any particular medical conditions. Other than that, personally, I would give her all she wants to eat within about 15 minutes, once a day. I would guesstimate that might be about 1/2 to 3/4 cup. Of course it would depend on her level of activity too. If you notice she is gaining or losing weight, then adjust it accordingly. I might also suggest you alternate the recipe to include fish, poultry, eggs, oatmeal, and noodles, even cottage cheese occasionally. That's just my personal suggestion. For a professional opinion, you'll want to check with your vet.
