What a sweet face! I would guess Scooter to be a Rat Terrier mix.

Yes, we agreed there was most likely some Rat terrier. He does have a sweet face. :-)

» megrnr - Any guess on her breed?

This is Katie, we adopted her from a local shelter about 2 months ago. She was almost 4 months in the photo, now about 6 months and 40 pounds. The shelter said she was a shepherd mix, but mixed with what? She looks to me like maybe a golden lab, but she seems to be too small to have 2 large breeds in her. Any guesses?

What kind of puppy is this? We found him walking the streets.

Thanks for any input. I'm thinking golden retriever.

It's so hard to tell with mixed breeds at that age because they change so much as they grow. With the wrinkled forehead and the big muzzle, do you think she could have some Sharpei in her?

Wow, maybe, although the wrinkly forehead mostly went away as she grows. I will upload more recent pictures tonight.

Because they change so much, it's hard to tell when they're young. And photos are not like being there to see size, coat texture, movements, etc. But it's still fun to try and guess.

Your dog is so sweet looking. Looks like my lab did as a puppy and he is small for a lab.
But, my golden female weighs 69 lbs and at nine weeks she looked as big as your puppy. Look close at her head goldens have a bump on the back on their head it sort of makes a pointed look not flat like a lab or other breeds.

» kimberley576 - puppy is AKC registered but doesn't look purebred

Hey Guys,
I got an AKC registered shih tzu about a month and a half ago named Ranger. He is only 3 months old, but as he has matured he hasn't taken on the typical "shih tzu" look. I have a one year old shih tzu Ripley and Ranger looks totally different from him as a puppy. I talked to my vet and she said that two things could have happened. Either another one of the breeder's dogs could have impregnated the mother without the breeder's knowledge, or that there could have been a throw back to a gene in the lineage from another breed used way back in time to create the shih tzu breed. Either way....I don't care. I think that Ranger is adorable and I am totally in love with him. I do not breed my dogs so purebred is only a word to me. I just thought that it might be fun to hear others opinions on what breed they might see in him. I know that he is young and it will be easier to tell once he gets older, but here is a little info about him.

At 3 months he weighs 3 1/2lbs. His coat is about an inch and a half long, is soft, and is very straight. It is growing longer on his body, tail, and ears but isn't fluffy like you see in the shih tzu. It is shorter on his legs. He has fringing around his ears, but not the typical hair growth on the face or muzzle like you typically see in a shih tzu. He doesn't have the underbite that you usually see either.

Here is a picture:

Thanks for your input! :-)
