» PFoucault - Please help!

Hello. I received my best friend from an aquaintance who called me and said that he knew a guy that had this puppy that he didn't want. And rather than take the animal to the pound, he was going to put on steel-toed boots and kick the poor thing to death!!! Needless to say I was appalled. I asked him to IMMEDIATELY retrieve the puppy and bring it to my house. I had no intention of owning a dog at the time but figured if he was mean, or in some other way undesireable, I would find somewhere to take him. Well, I have never seen a more intelligent, loveable animal in my entire life(I know this is a long story, and thank you for bearing with me. I will try to get to the point as quickly as possible.)! That was about three years ago. I unfortunately had to sell my house and buy a mobile home. I am now being evicted from the park because they don't allow Rottweilers, Pitbulls, Dobermans, or Chow's. Now I have NO experience determining breeds, but when I took him to the vet for the first time way-back-when, they of course asked me what breed he is. I think he looks like a Shepherd/Rotty mix, so all of the paperwork I have on him states that to be the breed/s. Could someone please tell me how I can find out? (short of DNA testing, if possible) He's the greatest dog in the world and I will be devastated if I have to get rid of him! Any help would be extremely appreciated. Thank you.

The only way to know for sure is DNA testing but I tend to agree that he looks Rottie/Shepherd. I'm SO against breed specific laws and rules because not only is it the owner and not the breed that causes problems but that they are impossible to enforce fairly. It should be the park's burden to "prove" but I doubt it works that way. Sometimes landlords don't want new dogs of these breeds to come in but will consider allowing existing dogs to stay, especially if they've presented no problems, and sometimes getting your dog a CGC will help your case too. I wish you the best. He looks like a sweet boy.

» AddieJN - dachshund and ????

I would like your opinion about the breeds that were mixed to create my dog. She is a solid little dog about 23 lbs. She is mostly black with short hair. She has a white patch on her chest about the size of a hand print. Her face and ears look very dachsy to me, but she is about 4" taller than a Dachs. I bought her at a county animal shelter and was attracted to her because she was quiet in a room of barking dogs, had expressive eyes, and because of her small size. Other interesting qualities are: she has webbed toes, points (often stands on three legs with her tail extended when out doors) and she snores.
She is a very sweet dog and likes to stay close to me. She continues to be a quiet dog. She is very passive (rolls over on her back a lot). She likes to play with our cat but I can't seem to get her interested in playing fetch, though I've tried several different dog toys (both hard and soft).
I'd like to send you a picture or two of her, but don't know how to attach pictures here.

Even with your very detailed description, it would be hard to make a guess without a picture. Photos cannot be posted in this forum but many people place their pictures somewhere like photobucket and then link to them. The best views, in my opinion, for identifying breeds is a head-on face picture and then a standing side view.

If you can post a link to pictures of your dog, I will be happy to give my opinion of what breeds she might be.
