» dbmbme - What is my dog?

We got our dog as a puppy from a shelter. They said one parent was a rotwieller. This girl puppy had three brothers with big block heads like a rotweiller but her nose was more tapered. Also, she was laying there calmly while they were ripping up the paper and causing havok, generally having a great time. We chose to get her since she seemed so calm. She has been a fantastic dog and we named her Dingo because to us, she looked like a Dingo but we are stumped when people ask what type of dog she is. I will provide links to pictures below, but I wanted to give a description of what her skin/hair looks like. Her skin is dark brown almost black yet her hair is blonde and white. Her lips and nose are black and she looks like she has black eyeliner on along with some black hairs around her eyes. The only black hairs she seems to have. She is extremely playful and she used to be skinny in her waist but she has bulked up now that she has been an adult a few years. Her socks are white with golden spots and she has a curly tail. I hope you are able to help us!

P.S. It looks like her collar is tight but we check it for tightness and her hair is really thick along with her skin feeling loose there.

You're welcome, although I wouldn't really say I'm "providing a service." I just give my opinion which may or may not be right. happy

If you were given the correct information at the shelter, I guess it just proves how dogs can have bloodlines that do not show up in their appearance. I've seen puppies (father unknown) at the shelter that grow up to look nothing like their mother. I don't know if you're aware but it is possible for puppies from the same litter to have different fathers if the mother bred with different dogs.

But since you mentioned Rottie, I specifically looked for it and in the sitting side view, it may be evident somewhat in her body shape and in the slope between her eyes. Also the black hairs you mentioned could be from Rottie. She carries her tail like she could have some kind of northern breed in her, which may account for the thick hair around her neck too. Otherwise I would say her coloring, pointy nose, and flippy ears look like she could have some Collie too. The only way to know for sure is to do the DNA testing on her. When people ask what breed she is, just tell them All American Mixed Breed or just make up a "designer" name. They'll probably answer back, "Oh those are great dogs!" ;)

» tiger85 - What is my bull terrier crossed with if anything?

Hi there,
I hope that some one could shed some light on which breed of dog my Lexi is crossed with, I rescued her from a litter that was literary being killed by thier own mother one by one, someone I knew had a bull terrier female (brindle and white) and a fawn and white male - although, the father didnt look pure bred. Lexi has the coat of a doberman or rottie but the body mainly of a bullie.. altho she is a bit taller than most and has a smaller head that isnt quite as slopped as our other dog Storm (he is a registered bullie). I've done some research and come up with her exact coat in some other bull terriers, infact three of them could be her twin, and also quite frequent in the American Pit Bull breed. The vet cant even tell me what she is crossed with and I just get annoyed with people commenting on what a lovely dog she is and then adding, but a mutt none the less. She has many bull terrier traits and is an extremley loving and affectionate animal, jealous and spoilt at times but a heart of gold. I will try to attach links to this post, hopefull with success..

Any opinions would really be appreciated..
Thanking you

Sam

Hmmm, another tough one. Lexie is a unique dog. She does definitely show Bull Terrier. I really don't see Rottweiler. And although she could have Dobie in her, I think it's just her mix giving her that appearance. The more I look, the more I think she has German Shepherd in her. Her tail, the curvature of the hind legs and the hair on the back of her hind legs, and even her face especially in the 'hot dog' picture, really look like German Shepherd to me. What do you think?

thank you for your input, but i dont know so much about the german shep, as i said, i saw her parents and since they were on an isolated farm which was fenced in, her dad and mom were definately hers, and tho her mom was a brindle bullie, her dad could have been crossed with a staffy, not a big dog at all or resembling any of the dogs mentioned, i personally seem to think it comes more from the staffordshire terrier side as when i look at other articles, particularly about Pit Bull Terriers, their coats match. I just cant seem to find which dog in thier ancestory introduced this coat, where do you think i could look on the net?

Guessing at a dog's ancestry can get tricky. I do know German Shepherds well but I don't know all that much about Bull Terriers although your dog doesn't look like the typical Bull Terriers we always see. Your question led me to do a bit of research and I've learned some things. Sounds like color was added into the breed because of so many white ones being deaf. Seems there's also something about a now extinct Black and Tan Terrier breed which sort of "turned into" the smaller Manchester Terrier and is in the Bull Terrier history. I'm sending links. Maybe your dog "reached back" and pulled some characteristics from the old Black and Tan Terrier breed.
