Guessing at a dog's ancestry can get tricky. I do know German Shepherds well but I don't know all that much about Bull Terriers although your dog doesn't look like the typical Bull Terriers we always see. Your question led me to do a bit of research and I've learned some things. Sounds like color was added into the breed because of so many white ones being deaf. Seems there's also something about a now extinct Black and Tan Terrier breed which sort of "turned into" the smaller Manchester Terrier and is in the Bull Terrier history. I'm sending links. Maybe your dog "reached back" and pulled some characteristics from the old Black and Tan Terrier breed.
